Ten7 Brewing Wins March Madness Brewery Bracket Contest

A local brewery from North Wales has been crowned the winner of Straight from the Tap’s Inaugural March Madness brewery competition.

Ten7 Brewing, located at 510 Beaver Street, rose victorious from a sea of 62 southeastern Pennsylvania breweries in the NCAA-styled March Madness competition, which occurred over the course of several weeks last month. Breweries were ranked by ratings from UnTappd, and then faced-off in head-to-head match ups on Facebook, with users and fans voting for their favorites.

The road to victory for #16 Ten7 began with a first round matchup with #49 Wissahickon Brewing Company, which they won by 18 percent (59-41). Ten7 then beat #17 Vault Brewing by 36 percent (68-32) before pulling off a 14-percent upset of #1 Imprint Brewing in the Sweet Sixteen (57-43). In the Elite Eight, Ten7 squared off with local dark-horse #56 Round Guys Brewing, winning by 20 percent (60-40), and they then dispatched #28 Broken Goblet in the Final Four via a 16-percent victory (58-42).

That all lead up to the championship matchup with #27 Sterling Pig Brewery, which Ten7 won by 14 percent (57-43).

Aside from the well-deserved bragging rights, Ten7 Brewing was presented with a trophy at their championship celebration on Sunday afternoon.

“Thank you to all who voted for us in the first Straight From The Tap March Madness,” said Ten7 Brewing, in a post on Facebook. “The support we have received over the last five months is amazing. We appreciate all of you!! Cheers!”

Valiant Efforts by Local Brewers

In addition to Ten7 Brewing’s victory, two other local breweries made their presence known in the tournament.

#56 Round Guys launched a string of upset victories, beginning with their first round matchup with #9 Crime and Punishment Brewing, which they won by 50 percent (75-25). The following round, Round Guys defeated #24 Tuned Up Brewing by 16 percent (58-42), and then went on to defeat #8 La Cabra Brewing by 28 percent (64-36) in the Sweet Sixteen.

#53 Blueprint also made their mark in the tournament, defeating #12 Aston Abbey Brewing by 20 percent (60-40) in the opening round and #44 Dock Street Brewery by 36 percent (68-32) in the second round, before falling to #28 Broken Goblet Brewing in the Sweet Sixteen.

Narrowest of Victories

Aside from an early tie, the narrowest victory was Imprint’s second round victory over #33 Brothers Kershner Brewing by .2 percent (50.1-49.9).
