Grocery Theft Leads to Felony Charges for Two Men

The Hatfield Township Police Department has announced the arrest of two men, in connection with an incident that occurred at the Giant supermarket along the 1500 block of Cowpath Road earlier this month.

Joshe Anderson, 41, of Easton, and Michael Karam, 54, of Whitehall, are both facing felony charges of retail theft, conspiracy to commit retail theft, receiving stolen property and conspiracy to commit receiving stolen property in connection with the incident.

According to the release, police responded to the supermarket on Sept. 7 at 1:15 p.m. for a “late theft report.” The investigation revealed that on Sept. 5, Anderson and Karam entered the supermarket and filled a shopping cart with items and merchandise totaling $1,170.40. They then allegedly left the store without paying, bypassing all points of sale, the report states.

Warrants were issued for both men, who were arrested and taken into custody on Sept. 26. They were arraigned by Magisterial District Justice Paul Leo, and then taken to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility after failing to post $25,000 cash bail. Their preliminary hearing is scheduled for Oct. 9 at 10 a.m. in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine.
