Discover Lansdale has released the details for the 2018 Chili Cook-off, which serves as an anchor for the October First Friday festivities.
The cook-off will be held on Oct. 5 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the intersection of Main and Madison streets next to Railroad Plaza. The contest is a single category, with professional and amateur recipes going head to head, and judging will be done by the public. Awards for first, second and third place will be announced at Railroad Plaza at 8:45 p.m.
The rules are as follows:
• Chili is to brought “ready-to-eat.” Each contestant is solely responsible to make sure that no ingredient is under-cooked and/or that there is no risk of food-borne illness.
• The cooking period must occur within 24 hours of the event. Chili must be brought and kept in crock-pot or other warming container that will be placed for entry by 5:30 p.m. Chili will then be transferred to serving / warming pans.
• Each contestant must cook a gallon (four quarts) of chili.
• Discover Lansdale will provide spoons and cups for serving to the general public, and of course, napkins.
• Judging will be done by the general public between 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., with people tasting and then voting for those two hours—or until they run out of chili.

The Fall Harvest and Chili Cookoff First Friday will also feature many other autumn-themed festivities, including a scarecrow contest, a petting zoo and early trick-or-treating. A full lineup of festivities will be featured in an upcoming article.
