A chemical spill that occurred on Sunday afternoon at a stream at Whites Road Park has been deemed non-hazardous by local officials.
“A local business had some roof sealant applied to their roof on Saturday, and the rain on Sunday washed some of the material off,” said Michael Trail, Lansdale Borough Police Chief. “The material is not hazardous and is biodegradable.”
In addition to the Lansdale Borough Police Department, clean up crews and members of area fire departments responded to the scene, according to Chris Kunkel, Lansdale Borough Community Development Manager.
“[The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection] also responded, and confirmed it was a non-hazardous substance,” Kunkel said.
Pictures of the stream were posted to the Citizens for the Revitalization of Lansdale Facebook Group, showing a milky-white chemical within the stream. Screenshots of Chief Trail’s Twitter account were added later, stating that there is no threat to the public or the waterway.
Kunkel added that there will be a follow up to ensure that the cleanup of the stream has been completed.
