North Penn High School (NPHS) students will put on William Shakespeare’s “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” with a twist for their 2018 fall play.
The play will be held Nov. 15 to Nov. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and on Nov. 18 at 2 p.m. This year, there will also be a gold and silver card matinee performance on Nov. 14 at 1 p.m. The play is appropriate for families and is recommended for children 7 years old and older.
While many of the characters and the basic plot of this classic play remain the same, the theatre students took creative liberties by making the story set in the Industrial Revolution. The costumes, music, and overall feel of this rendition of the play will have a Steampunk influence.
Aside from the era, the play is set to remain true to Shakespeare’s original plot. The story is set in Athens and deals with the events surrounding the marriage of Duke Theseus—played by Joshua Maier—to Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons, played by Kristianna Fink.
Things take a rocky turn when Hermia—played by Samantha Stec—wants to marry Lysander—played by Paul Klemmer—instead of her father’s choice for her. The four lovers run away to a forest where Lysander and Hermia can be married. However, things became complicated in the night, and chaos ensues.
Tickets are on sale now through Ticketleap and an order form by clicking here. Tickets may also be purchased at the door. Adult tickets are $10 and student tickets cost $5. Gold and silver cards will be honored at all performances and will need to be shown in ordered to be used.
