Child Sustains Serious Injuries After Being Struck by Vehicle at Wissahickon Apartments

UPDATE: Per Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail, the victim is expected to recover, and the driver will not be charged. There will be no press release regarding the incident.

A seven-year-old girl was airlifted to the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia after being struck by a vehicle in the parking lot of Wissahickon Apartments on Tuesday afternoon.

According to a report by MontcoAlerts, the incident occurred along the 700 block of East Main Street outside of Apartment J of Wissahickon Apartments around 4:30 p.m. The report stated that a child had been struck by a vehicle in the parking lot, and was trapped underneath the vehicle.

Lansdale Borough Police informed North Penn Now that the child was a 7-year-old female, who was given a preliminary diagnosis of a fractured pelvis, along with injuries and abrasions to her left shoulder and torso. Police stated that the cause of the incident was attributed to a 69-year-old female driver mistaking the gas pedal for the brake, adding that it’s unsure if they intend to charge the driver.

Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail indicated that the victim’s injuries were serious, but she is expected to recover. Units from the Fairmount Fire Company, Montgomery Township Fire Department and Volunteer Medical Services Corps assisted the Lansdale Borough Police Department at the scene.

Chief Trail added that the police department will put out a press release tomorrow morning.
