Civics 101 To Tour Public Works Building For First Time

Many Lansdale residents may think that Lansdale’s Public Works only handles snow plowing, but this Thursday’s tour of the facility will show attendees that it is so much more.

As part of the Civics 101 workshop series, residents are invited to tour the public works garage for the first time in the history of the event series. Superintendent Rick Delong will show attendees all that the department does, from handling storm water inlets to painting the roadways. They will tour the garage and see how each piece of equipment fits in with a specific service the department offers.

“We also plan on showing how the borough’s investment in GIS technology has helped public works crews be more effective and efficient in what they do,” said Tracy Flynn, Lansdale’s communication coordinator.

The timing of Civics 101 events is not by accident. Flynn arranges the schedule based on what is relevant for that month as well as what other workshops she has planned.

“The public works workshop was added between the WWTP tour and the electric workshop, which will be held November 8, as they work closely with the other utility departments of the Borough,” said Flynn.

The public works building is located at 653 West 9th Street in Lansdale. Like other workshops in the series, the tour is free and is open to all ages. The building is handicap accessible, though Flynn said some parts may be difficult to navigate.
