Police: Employee Embezzled $240K from Lansdale Business

A Pottstown man is facing multiple felonies in connection with an extended embezzlement scheme that occurred while he was an employee of NetCarrier in Lansdale.

Pedro Arcay, of the 400 block of Spring Street, Pottstown, is charged with felony counts of theft by unlawful taking, receiving stolen property and unauthorized access device use, along with a misdemeanor count of tampering with records.

According to the criminal complaint, Lansdale Police responded to NetCarrier—located along the 1000 block of Cannon Ave.—shortly before 10 a.m. on Oct. 1 for a report of suspected embezzlement. Police were informed that an employee who had been recently terminated—identified as Pedro Arcay, a 13-year employee and the Accounts Payable Manager—had embezzled thousands of dollars while he was employed there.

An investigation was then launched, which uncovered that between 2011 and 2018, Arcay had allegedly made unauthorized purchases using the company’s credit card, to a total of $240,928.09. The report states that—in an effort to conceal the unauthorized purchases—Arcay made copies of the original bank statements, cut out the names of legitimately payable businesses and then glued them on top of the unauthorized purchases.

The report also states that when Arcay was questioned by police, he admitted both to making the unauthorized purchases as well as altering the bank statements. Records indicate that he used the card to pay personal bills, loans, and even a family vacation to Disney World, according to the report.

Arcay was arrested on Oct. 25, and he had his preliminary hearing in front of Magisterial District Judge Ed Levine on Nov. 14. All charges were held for formal arraignment at the Montgomery County Court of Common Pleas, which is scheduled for Jan. 02, 2019, at 9:30 a.m.

Arcay remains free on $100,000 unsecured bail.
