With the first winter storm of the season still dropping snow, sleet and freezing rain across the North Penn region, traffic has become a nightmare as road conditions continue to deteriorate.

According to the Montgomery County Department of Public Safety, emergency responders have had their hands full all day, with as many as 145 simultaneous incidents across the county at any given time. In many locations, roads have turned into gridlock, and nowhere was that more evident than Route 309.

The northbound lanes of Route 309 began to back up just outside of the Route 113 exit early Thursday afternoon, causing extremely lengthy delays. The cause of the backup—according to multiple sources and reports—was a white van that had gotten stuck on the hill approaching the exit. The vehicle was also towing a camel, which had gotten free and was clearly visible in multiple images that were sent to North Penn Now.
