Swastikas Spray Painted on Car in Montgomery Township on ‘Mischief Night’

The Montgomery Township Police Department is currently investigating a series of incidents that occurred during the overnight hours between Oct. 30 and Oct. 31—commonly referred to as "Mischief Night.”

The incidents occurred along the 300 block of Hopkins Court, the 200 block of Franklin Court, the 1500 and 1600 blocks of Morris Court and the 300 block of Abbey Lane. According to Montgomery Township Police Chief Scott Bendig, investigators have no leads at this time, but believe all of the incidents are connected to the same actor or actors.

In all but one incident, red spray paint was used to paint obscene phrases and images on houses and fences. In the other case, it was used to paint multiple swastikas on the windows of a resident’s vehicle.

"It’s a disturbing incident which we are taking very seriously,” said Bendig. "Especially in light of what happened over the weekend in Pittsburgh.”

Bendig added that police have canvassed the area several times, but have been unable to secure any leads. They’ve also asked residents for surveillance footage, but have not found any to be useful at this time.

"We’re asking anyone with knowledge or information relating to these incidents to contact us immediately at (215) 362-2301,” said Bendig, adding that there may be other area residents who have surveillance that could be useful.
