Details of Lansdale Train Accident Released

The Lansdale Borough Police Department has released the details of an accident involving a Septa train and a pickup truck that occurred on Christmas morning.

According to the release, police were dispatched to the Septa Railroad Crossing on West Seventh Street at 8:19 a.m. for a report of a crash involving a train and a motor vehicle. The ensuing investigation revealed that the crash occurred after a maroon Ford F-150, driven by Joshua Schneidinger, of the 800 block of West Eighth Street, Lansdale Borough, drove through the railroad crossing arm and travelled onto the tracks and into the path of an oncoming northbound Septa train. The front end of the truck was then struck by Septa car #878.

The release states that Schneidinger told police that he did not see that the crossing arm was in the down position due to glare from the sun. According to Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail, charges against Schneidinger are pending the conclusion of the investigation.

One passenger on the train was taken from the scene via ambulance to Lansdale Hospital for evaluation of complaints of back pain. The remaining passengers were transported from the scene via bus.

Lansdale police were assisted at the scene by members of the Volunteer Medical Services Corps of Lansdale.
