Christmas Fire in Lansdale Displaces Family, Kills Dog

A married couple in Lansdale became displaced on Christmas night, following a fire that also claimed the life of their family dog.

Several area fire departments were dispatched to the unit block of Fairview Avenue for a report of a dwelling fire shortly after 6 p.m. on Dec. 25. According to MontcoAlerts, there was heavy smoke showing from a second-floor fire when crews arrived. The fire was contained and placed under control, though crews remained on scene for a time afterwards.

According to Melissa Bell, who owns the home along with her husband, the house will probably have to be gutted, and it has been deemed uninhabitable. Bell and her husband spent the evening at the husband’s parents’ home, and they will be staying in a hotel for the near future. The couple is in the process of filing a claim through their homeowner’s insurance.

Bell—who was away with her husband at the time—said she believes the cause of the fire will be ruled accidental. No injuries were reported at the scene, though Bell said their dog had been killed in the fire.

Fairmount Fire Company was joined at the scene by units from North Penn, Colmar and Worcester fire companies. Lansdale Borough Police Chief Michael Trail has informed North Penn Now that the borough expects to put out a press release later today.
