The Bucks County District Attorney’s Office has announced felony charges against a 26-year-old Perkasie woman, stemming from a crash that occurred on Route 113 in Hilltown Township early Sunday morning.
The suspect—identified as Danae Marie Swartz, of the 1000 block of Deerfield Circle—is facing charges of homicide by vehicle while under the influence, homicide by vehicle, driving under the influence of alcohol and driving on roadways laned for traffic, in connection with the incident.
According to the release, Hilltown Township Police responded to a fatal accident involving two vehicles that occurred on Route 113 between Moyer Road and Hamilton Street on Dec. 16 at 5:23 a.m. Swartz was reportedly traveling southbound on Route 113 in a blue 2005 Honda Civic when she lost control while navigating through a left curve, causing her to strike the front-end of a white 1991 Honda Civic that was driven by 56-year-old Tsegai Gebremichael, of Sellersville.
Gebremichael was pronounced dead at the scene, and Swartz was transported to Saint Luke’s Hospital in Bethlehem for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.
Swartz was arraigned by Magisterial District Judge Regina Armitage, who set bail at $500,000 cash. Swartz was then remanded to the Bucks County Correctional Facility after failing to post bail.
Hilltown Police were assisted at the scene by the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, the Bucks County District Attorney’s Crash Investigation Team, Silverdale Fire Department, Grand View Hospital’s Medic 151, Bedminster Township Police and the Bucks County Coroner’s Office.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
