Taylor Goettner, Newlywed Cancer Patient, Dies at 26

Taylor Goettner, 26, passed away on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2018 after battling cancer for 10 years.

Goettner was born in September 1992, and grew up in Hatfield Township. She graduated from North Penn High School and received her associate’s degree from Montgomery County Community College. She was known for her love of flowers, her beautiful singing voice, and her positive attitude that she upheld through all of her struggles.

In 2009, at the age of 16, Goettner was diagnosed with an aggressive form of ovarian cancer. She endured six surgeries and many chemotherapy treatments. Earlier this year, she was diagnosed with an inoperable tumor that chemo was not able to shrink.

Knowing that she did not have long to live, her and her boyfriend, Tyler Blaetz, got engaged and were married back on Nov. 16. Friends held a Zumbathon fundraiser in October to help raise money for the wedding. The event raised nearly $1,000 and many people stepped forward to help provide services for the wedding.

“If you have ever had the pleasure of meeting Taylor, you know what an absolute inspiration she is to every life she's touched,” said Stephanie Erik, on a GoFundMe page that was set up to raise money for Goettner’s wedding. “She is a kind, caring, giving person who shines a light over everyone she meets with a beautiful smile on her face no matter what she is facing in life.”

Goettner was known for her bright and positive personality and her often colorful hair. She will be remembered by all who had the pleasure of crossing paths with her, even if they did not know her well. Her legacy of living life fully with joy and making the most of every situation will live on in the hearts of her loved ones forever. She had an infectious smile, even in the midst of her fiercest battles with cancer.

A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at The Emerald Ballroom, located at 14002 McNulty Road, Philadelphia, Pa, 19154. Visitation will be at 10 a.m. The life celebration service will follow at 11 a.m. and lunch to be held after the service at the venue.

Taylor requested that attendees wear bright colors instead of black funeral attire. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance.
