'Crackerjack' Clean-up Crew Spruces Up Downtown Lansdale

Bags in hand and hands in gloves, Lansdale’s crackerjack clean-up crew tackled the center of town Sunday morning (Aug. 19), to make it shine in advance of a month’s worth of big events.

“This is all about community pride,” said Borough Manager John Ernst. He was among 20 to 30 volunteers who worked under overcast, spitting skies to fill bags of refuse along Main, Wood, Vine, Green and other town thoroughfares in time for next Saturday’s Founders Day. And First Friday, Bike Night and Cruise Night follow soon after.

“We want to make sure that the borough puts its best foot forward,” Ernst said. “This is what we do to make the town look good, so when visitors come to Lansdale they understand that the people who live here have pride in their community.”

The clean-up event, like the one held last week at Whites Road Park, was co-organized by Lansdale resident William Breish and Discover Lansdale. And again, Smoke Daddy’s Home Grown Barbecue on West Main Street treated the volunteers to a delicious meal afterwards.

“I think it’s great to see everybody out participating,” said Breish. “I see some new faces, and some returning, and everybody seems really positive and ready to participate.”

He noted that there seems to be a lot of public interest in continuing the cleanup campaign, “which is ultimately the hope.”

Where to next – and when?

“I do want to get back to the parks, and pick a different park,” Breish said. “This time of year is a little tricky with vacation season. I think once everyone gets settled back in with school routines, we definitely want to kick off the next event.”
