FDMT Recognized for Commitment to Training

Members of the Fire Department of Montgomery Township were recognized for their service on Monday night.

Members of the Fire Department of Montgomery Township were recognized for their continuing efforts to serve the community during the Montgomery Township Supervisors meeting on Monday night.

The township supervisors presented officers of the fire department with certificates from the Office of Congressman Brendan Boyle. All of members of the Fire Department of Montgomery Township also received certificates separately.

The recognition comes about due to the fact that over 75 percent of the members of the fire company have been certified by the state/s Professional Qualifications Standards. These certifications are acquired by completing various courses. The first course firefighters are subject to is Firefighter One, which itself requires 192 hours of training. This curriculum prepares firefighters for many of the situations they could encounter while on a call. More advanced courses allow members to become versed in specific areas of the fire service.

Board of Supervisors Chair Candyce Flueher Chimera praised the efforts and sacrifices the volunteer firefighters make for their community.

“We are proud of the volunteers and the sacrifices they make missing their family, children, holidays and weekends," said Flueher-Chimera. "When the pagers go off, they drop what they are doing and answer the call. We are lucky to have them and we love them.”

Before presenting the officers of the department with their certificates, Richard Lesniak, Montgomery Township Director of Fire Services, stated the following.

“The Office of the State Fire Commissioners Participating Department Program recognized both the Department of Fire Services and Fire Department of Montgomery Township for their continued dedication towards training,”

Fire Department of Montgomery Township is comprised of volunteers, as are the majority of fire departments in suburban Philadelphia municipalities. These friends and neighbors are willing to put their own safety on the line to assist others in their community. Presentations such as this bring those people from the background into the spotlight if only for a moment.
