A new brewery has entered the Borough of Lansdale, as Well Crafted Beer Company opened their doors to an eagerly-awaiting public.
Typically, soft openings are a quiet affair where restaurant staff can test systems to refine their operating procedures. Well Crafted's soft opening-- on the other hand--was the sort of crowded excitement you would expect to take place after a significant marketing campaign. Word of mouth had spread far and wide that a new brewery was opening, and after only a few hours of operation, the brewery was filled with the hum of customers enjoying food and a "Well Crafted" pint to wash it down.
Founded by five friends with a passion for beer, the brewery is the result of years of work and planning. Head Brewer Rick Solomon began to study the different effects water could create in the end-product, and through various processes, realized they could create different base water profiles with the goal of accenting the flavor of each beer.
Fellow owner Doug Bellenger said that they want to be more than just a place to grab a cold beer, though. Opening shop in what was at one point a Masonic temple (and later the Lansdale Center for the Performing Arts), the space includes a small stage the owners hope to be a focal point in the Lansdale nightlife. They also have a small food menu that will change seasonally, and is sourced locally as much as possible. Board games are stacked on shelves, inviting patrons to stay for one more game and one more beer, and works from local artists are hung around the venue and are all for sale.
Located at 310 Madison Street, Well Crafted is directly across the street from Equus Madison Lot Project, which is currently under construction. This is something not lost on the owners, as they will soon have over 180 new apartments looking right at them. If the soft opening was any indication of future success, and with the addition of more potential customers on the horizon, Well Crafted looks to be in an ideal position as a must-visit destination in an increasingly competitive down-town area.
