Penndale Memorial Garden Revitalized for Memorial Day Weekend

Just in time for Memorial Day, the North Penn School
District (NPSD) is proud to announce the revitalization of the memorial garden
on the Penndale Middle School campus.

Located at the corner of Penn Street and Church Road in Lansdale,
the North Penn High School (NPHS) Key Club sponsors and maintains a memorial
garden to honor North Penn students who gave the ultimate sacrifice and lost
their lives while in combat. Each spring, members of the key club clean up the
garden and plant flowers in preparation for their annual Memorial Day service
held in honor and remembrance of fallen NPHS graduates.

Due to social distancing regulations, the key club was
unable to assemble for such purposes this year. Like the true team-players they
are, the NPSD Facilities and Operations Department was thrilled to lend a hand
in making sure the garden was dressed and looking great for Memorial Day.

In fact, the memorial garden received a full facelift this
spring. Trees were professionally trimmed and old trees and bushes were
removed. NPSD Facilities team members Christina Hazzard, Brandy Potser and
Steve Fitzsimmons were hard at work edging flower beds, mulching, planting new
flowers and proudly placing American flags throughout the garden. Hazzard also
plans to stain the benches lining the garden this spring.

“The district is as committed as ever to the stewardship of
the memorial,” said Jonathan Kassa, NPSD Board of School Director and chair of
the NPSD Facilities and Operations Committee. “The arborists and commitment to
the original number of grove of trees, plus overall care, is a solemn priority
we take seriously.”

Although the NPHS Key Club is not able to hold its annual
Memorial Day ceremony honoring fallen NPHS graduates, North Penn Television
(NPTV) will be re-airing last year’s ceremony in honor of our North Penn heroes
on Monday, May 25 at 11:00 am on Comcast local channel 28 and Verizon local
channel 29.
