The victim was hit with enough force that her shoe was thrown off her foot and the earrings knocked out of her ears.
A Lansdale man is accused by police of hitting a woman on an electric scooter with enough force that it knocked her shoe off her foot and the earrings out of her ears and then fleeing the scene in a panic.
Christopher Michael Dedrick, 35, of the 200 block of South Richardson Street, was charged Aug. 8 via summons by Lansdale Police on misdemeanor offenses of accidents involving personal injury and recklessly endangering another person, in connection with the May 19 incident, according to charging documents.
On May 19, at 1:42 a.m., police responded to an emergency call at the intersection of Green and Vine streets in Lansdale for a report of an accident involving a non-motorist on an electric scooter, police said, where a woman was in the street yelling for help.
Upon arrival, police located the victim and a Good Samaritan named Regina Jones and a plethora of onlookers, police said, all of whom did not see the accident.
The victim, police said, was hysterical, disoriented, and hard to understand, but was able to give police her address and told them she was suffering from leg and head pain.
Jones told police the woman’s shoe was knocked off her foot as a result of the accident, per the complaint, and two of her earrings were knocked out of her ears.
The victim described the striking vehicle as a gray van that left westbound on Vine Street, police said.
At 2:46 a.m., Montgomery County emergency radio received a call from Dedrick, who admitted being the driver of the striking vehicle, police said. He told police he fled the scene because he did not know what to do, and told them he was driving a silver Ford Escape, per the affidavit.
Police responded to Dedrick’s home and found him pale and in distress; he was having difficulty explaining what happened, police said.
Dedrick said he was driving westbound on Vine Street, when the victim entered the intersection without stopping and hit his car with her scooter, per the complaint.
When walking to the van to inspect the damage, police asked Dedrick why he did not stop and he said he regretted that, according to the report.
Lansdale Police found footage of the accident using the Borough Watch Surveillance System, which allegedly shows Dedrick turning onto Vine Street from South Broad Street, continuing on Vine Street until the crash, and then fleeing the wrong way south on Green Street, police said.
A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Sept. 25 at 1:30 p.m. before Magisterial District Judge Edward Levine.
All suspects and defendants are innocent until proven guilty. This story was compiled using public court records.
